Wash the tray and fill it with clean tap water. Allow the water in the tray to settle, then draw a strip of newspaper across the surface to skim off the dust, bubbles and any contamination that may affect the finished design.
When the surface is still, carefully add one or two droplets of each ink you want to use. Now use a stylus dipped into the surface of the bath to gently swirl the colours together to make an attractive pattern. Then, waiting only long enough to let the surface settle, lay a sheet of paper on the design, taking care not to trap any air under the paper. Leave in position for 1 - 2 seconds, then gently lift it from the tray and leave it to dry. You can take another print from the tray but the colours will be less intense; sometimes the second print is more effective than the first.
Fabric may be marbled using the same technique as paper (remove dressing by pre-washing) but it is not possible to fix once complete.
Marbling colours will wash off hands and equipment with liquid detergent. Clothing should be protected as staining may occur.
WARNING: COLOURS ARE STAINS, PROTECT CLOTHES AND SURFACES.
