The paper has a black top coat which is easily scratched with just a wooden stick to expose the colours beneath. The more you scratch, the wider the lines and the more colourful the results.
The black coating is very sensitive to oil or grease from your fingers and hands, so care should be taken not to touch the surface. Have a piece of scrap paper under your hands as you draw or write.
The pointed wooden stick will easily scratch through the black to reveal the colour. Using the pointed tip will produce a thin line. Tilting it at an angle will permit a wider scrape so more black can be removed faster.
If the point of the stick seems to skip without scratching, there may be some oil or grease on the tip. So just wipe or roughen the tip.
In order to preserve your drawing, deliberately rub your fingers carefully over the picture (watch your nails!). Add even more oil by rubbing your nose first!
If you wish, a prepared drawing or picture (supplied with kit) can be transferred to Scratch Card Board. This is easily done by placing the guide over the black top coating and pressing with a pencil or pen. This will make enough of a mark on the black for you to follow and scratch.
